Emily & Tucker | An Intimate East Tennessee Wedding at a Historic Home | James V Martin House

Last weekend, I had the privilege of traveling out of state to one of my absolute favorite places, Tennessee. And while I will never take for granted the opportunity to photograph weddings close to home, there is something so special about getting to travel somewhere new, explore a beautiful location, and document a love story along the way.

Their intimate wedding celebration took place at a gorgeous historic home nestled in the countryside of East Tennessee, surrounded by rolling hills, mountain views, and the simplicity of early fall. As I drove down the road leading to the house, I couldn't help but take in the beauty around me. The mountains were just beginning to show touches of fall color. Open fields were scattered with old barns, winding creeks, and cows grazing in the distance. It was one of those drives that reminds you just how beautiful life can be, especially when you slow down long enough to take it all in.

And honestly, that was such a perfect reflection of the entire wedding day.

There was no rush. No need for anything extravagant. Just two people, surrounded by the ones they love most, celebrating the beginning of their marriage.

One of my favorite things about Emily and Tucker's wedding was how intentional everything felt.

I think sometimes we get so caught up in what a wedding day is supposed to look like that we forget just how beautiful simplicity can be.

A backyard wedding doesn't mean you have to sacrifice beauty, elegance, or those little details that make a wedding day special. In fact, sometimes it's quite the opposite. There is something so personal about celebrating at a home, especially one filled with history and character. The gorgeous setting, the natural beauty of the Tennessee countryside, and the people who gathered to celebrate made everything feel so warm and inviting. Intimate weddings allow couples to slow down, be present, and truly enjoy the people who have come to celebrate with them. There is more room for conversation, laughter, hugs, and all those little in-between moments that I absolutely love capturing.

And when your backdrop is the beautiful East Tennessee mountains, you really don't need much else.

As beautiful as the scenery was, it wasn't the most meaningful part of the day. What stood out to me most was the love that surrounded Emily and Tucker. Their guest list may have been small in numbers, but the distance people traveled to celebrate with them was anything but small. Family members flew in from South Africa, Australia, and Canada to be part of their wedding day.

How amazing is that?!

There is something incredibly special about seeing people travel across countries and oceans just to be present for two people they love. It speaks volumes about the relationships they've built and the importance of simply being together. And I think that's what made this intimate Tennessee wedding so memorable. It wasn't about how many people filled the space, but about the love that filled it.

The morning started with rain, and for a little while, we weren't quite sure what the Tennessee weather had in store for us. But as the wedding approached, the skies began to clear, giving way to the most beautiful afternoon and evening.

And goodness, was it pretty.

The soft light, the mountains in the distance, and those subtle hints of fall color created such a beautiful setting for their outdoor celebration. As a wedding photographer, I will always love those unexpected moments when the weather shifts and everything seems to fall perfectly into place. Sometimes the prettiest light comes after the rain, and this day was such a sweet reminder of that.

If there is one thing I took away from Emily and Tucker's wedding, it's that a wedding doesn't have to be elaborate to be incredibly meaningful. Sometimes the most beautiful celebrations are the ones that allow you to slow down. To take in the scenery. To sit and visit with family you haven't seen in years. To laugh, hug, and enjoy the people who made the effort to be there.

Whether you're celebrating in a historic home, planning an intimate backyard wedding, or exchanging vows with the Smoky Mountains in the distance, the beauty is found in the moments and the people who share them with you.

Emily and Tucker, thank you for allowing me to be part of such a special day. It was such a joy getting to travel to East Tennessee to celebrate alongside your family and friends and capture these memories for you.

I left Tennessee with a full heart, so many beautiful images, and another reminder of why I love what I do.What a beautiful beginning to your next chapter. 🤍
